Carpets

These fall under two main categories: wool and manmade. Manmade fibres have come a long way from looking cheap, shiny and static. Now it’s often impossible to tell the difference between a polypropylene carpet and a wool one. A mixture of the two is the ideal scenario.

Wool Carpets

Wool is hard wearing and keeps its shape. On the down side, they are more expensive and more prone to staining than manmade carpets, so we don't advise laying one in heavy traffic areas like the hall, stairs and landing.

Undeniably classy, very stylish and feeling lovely underfoot, a wool carpet does give the wow factor and you might like to consider one for the lounge, but make sure it has a general domestic rating. According to a recent campaign from the British Wool Board, they’re also the most sustainable and natural choice.

Manmade Carpets

These suit anywhere. Cheaper and more stain resistant than wool, they can happily live in high traffic areas, providing they are for heavy domestic use. But equally, they suit the low traffic areas like bedrooms, where you can get away with a lower spec carpet which just feels comfy underfoot. Manmade carpets might be more practical if you’re having a baby, have a pet, or if you don’t want to take your shoes off, since stains and spills are easier to remove.
